About Yakima Specialties Foundation
It began with a dream and a need. Yakima Specialties, Inc. was formed in Union Gap, Washington in 1964. Its mission is to provide employment for people with disabilities. We began with a wood shop, building pallets, tree spreaders and cutting lumber. In 1988 we added a laundry facility serving the needs of the medical community and now have a janitorial service providing cleaning services throughout the Yakima area. We are constantly looking for new ways to provide work opportunities for those with challenges who desire employment. Yakima Specialties, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) corporation managed by a 15 person volunteer board of directors comprised of business and community leaders. The Yakima Specialties Foundation was formed in 2003. It is a totally separate 501(c)(3) corporation directed by a seven person volunteer board of directors, a cross section of leaders from our community. The scope of Yakima Specialties Foundation is vast. Whereas Yakima Specialties, Inc is designed to provide employment opportunities for those with disabilities, Yakima Specialties Foundation is here to help improve the lifestyles of those within the entire disabled community. As we grow, we will also be able to provide support for other charitable organizations serving the disabled as well. Please feel free to visit and take a tour of our facilities. We'll be happy to answer any questions you may have. |
